6. Darum wir billig loben dich

From Herr Gott, dich loben alle wir, BWV 130

Johann Sebastian Bach
C major
16 measures

German text

English translation

Darum wir billig loben dich,
Thus we fittingly praise you,
Und danken dir, Gott, ewiglich,
And thank you, God, eternally,
Wie auch der lieben Engel Schar,
Just like [we thank] also the host of dear angels;
Dich preisen heut und immerdar.
[We] laud you today and forever.
Und bitten dich, wollst allezeit,
And [we] ask you, may you at all times,
Dieselben heissen sein bereit,
Bid these selfsame [angels] be ready
Zu schützen deine kleine Herd,
To protect your little flock,
So hält dein göttlich Wort in Wert.
Who holds your divine word in reverence.
