3. Er kann und will dich lassen nicht

Gott sorget freilich vor das Vieh,

Er gibt den Vögeln seine Speise,

God freely tends to the wild animal,

Er sättiget die jungen Raben,

He gives the bird his meal,

Nur ich, ich weiß nicht, auf was Weise

He nourishes the young raven,

Ich armes Kind

only I, I don’t know by what means

Mein bißchen Brot soll haben;

I, poor child,

Wo ist jemand, der sich zu meiner Rettung findt?

shall aquire my little bit of bread;

where is someone who can serve for my rescue?

Es scheint,

Als wollte mich auch Gott bei meiner Armut hassen,

it appears

Da er’s doch immer gut mit mir gemeint.

as if even God will hate me in my poverty,

Ach Sorgen,

since otherwise He has always meant well towards me.

Werdet ihr denn alle Morgen

Alas, troubles,

Und alle Tage wieder neu?

will you then every morning

So klag ich immerfort;

and every day be new again?

Ach! Armut, hartes Wort,

Then I will lament again and again;

Wer steht mir denn in meinem Kummer bei?

Alas! Poverty, harsh word,

who will stand with me then in my anguish?
