Ich steh mit einem Fuss im Grabe,	I stand with one foot in the grave;
Bald fällt der kranke Leib hinein,	Soon my sick body will descend into there;
Komm, lieber Gott, wenn dirs gefällt,	Come, dear God, [take my soul] when it pleases you;
Ich habe schon mein Haus bestellt,	I have already put my house in order;3
Nur lass mein Ende selig sein!	Just let my end be blessed.

Machs mit mir, Gott, nach deiner Güt,	Deal with me, God, in accordance with your goodness;
Hilf mir in meinem Leiden,	Help me in my suffering;
Was ich dich bitt, versag mir nicht.	What I beseech you, do not deny me.
Wenn sich mein Seel soll scheiden,	When my soul shall part [from my sick body],
So nimm sie, Herr, in deine Händ.	Then take it, Lord, into your hands.
Ist alles gut, wenn gut das End.	All’s well that ends well.
