Can a human really climb up to God in heaven? |
—Der Glaube kann den Schöpfer zu ihm neigen. |
—Faith can bend the Creator down to him.— |
Er ist oft ein zu schwaches Band. |
He is often too weak a cord. |
—Gott führet selbst und stärkt des Glaubens Hand, |
—God Himself leads and strengthens the hand of faith, |
Den Fürsatz zu erreichen.— |

Wie aber, wenn des Fleisches Schwachheit wollte weichen? |
How then, when the weakness of the flesh will shrink? |
—Des Höchsten Kraft wird mächtig in den Schwachen.— |
—The Almighty’s power becomes strong in the weak.— |
Die Welt wird sie verlachen. |
The world will laugh at them. |
—Wer Gottes Huld besitzt, verachtet solchen Spott.— |
—Who has God’s favor scorns such mockery.— |
Was wird ihr außer diesen fehlen! |
What could they lack besides this! |
—Ihr einzger Wunsch, ihr alles ist in Gott.— |
—Their only wish, their everything is in God.— |
Gott ist unsichtbar und entfernet: |
God is invisible and distant: |
—Wohl uns, daß unser Glaube lernet, |
—O fortunate we, for our faith teaches, |
Im Geiste seinen Gott zu schauen.— |

Since He now rewards faith |
