Choking fifty dollars |
Trockner Weise zu verschmausen, |
Of cold hard cash down a dry gullet |
Ist ein Ding, das harte fällt, |
Is a tough thing to swallow, |
Wenn sie uns die Haare zausen, |
While they pat us on the head. |
Doch was fort ist, bleibt wohl fort, |
But what’s gone is gone; |
Kann man doch am andern Ort |
If a guy can double that sum |
Alles doppelt wieder sparen; |
In a different place, |
Laßt die fünfzig Taler fahren! |
Then let the fifty dollars go! |
