Though the angry world might persecute you, |
So hast du dennoch Gott zum Freunde, |
yet you still have God as a friend, |

Who guards your back constantly |

Und wenn der wütende Herodes |
And when the raging Herod |
Das Urteil eines schmähen Todes |
decrees a shameful death |
Gleich über unsern Heiland fällt, |
even against our Savior, |
So kommt ein Engel in der Nacht, |
then an angel comes by night |
Der lässet Joseph träumen, |
and has Joseph dream |
Daß er dem Würger soll entfliehen |
that he should flee the strangler |
Und nach Ägypten ziehen. |
and go into Egypt. |
Gott hat ein Wort, das dich vertrauend macht. |
God has a word, that makes you confident. |
Er spricht: Wenn Berg und Hügel niedersinken, |
He says: though hill and mountain sink down, |
Wenn dich die Flut des Wassers will ertrinken, |
though the water’s flood seeks to drown you, |
So will ich dich doch nicht verlassen noch versäumen. |
even then I will not abandon or forsake you. |
