German text

English translation

Soll ich den auch des Todes Weg
Even if I should journey upon the path of death
Und finstre Straße reisen,
and on dark highways,
Wohlan! ich tret auf Bahn und Steg,
Well then! I walk upon the way and the road
Den mir dein Augen weisen.
that Your eye shows me.
Du bist mein Hirt, der alles wird
You are my Shepherd, who will bring everything
Zu solchem Ende kehren,
to such an end,
Daß ich einmal in deinem Saal
so that one day in Your court
Dich ewig möge ehren.
I might eternally honor You.
(“Ich habe in Gottes Herz und Sinn,” verse 12)
