For a detailed discussion of the dating of this work, which was completed before Mozart’s death in 1791 but dated 1792 on the manuscript, see the foreword to NMA I/1, section 2/1. The first system of this movement reproduces four empty staves that appear in the autograph score, intended for winds but never marked. The string parts are incomplete.
