Hostias et preces tibi, Domine, laudis offerimus. |
Tu suscipe pro animabus illis, quarum hodie memoriam facimus: |
fac eas, Domine, de morte transire ad vitam, |
quam olim Abrahae promisisti, et semini ejus. |
For a detailed discussion of the dating of this work, which was completed before Mozart’s death in 1791 but dated 1792 on the manuscript, see the foreword to NMA I/1, section 2/1. The first system of this movement reproduces four empty staves that appear in the autograph score, intended for winds but never marked. The string parts are incomplete. The end of the movement is marked “Quam olim da capo”. (NMA,I/1, section 2/1, foreword)
