with gratitude, with humility, gladly and often, |

2. Welch Glück, so hoch geehrt zu werden |
2. What happiness, to be so highly honored, |

and to stand before God in prayer! |

3. Sein Glück von seinem Gott begehren, |
3. To ask for one’s happiness from one’s God, |
ist dies denn eine schwere Pflicht? |

Und seine Wünsche Gott erklären, |
To make one’s desires known to God, |
erhebt dies unsre Seele nicht? |
does this not uplift our souls? |
Sich in der Furcht des Höchsten stärken, |
To strengthen oneself in the fear of the Lord, |

in the conviction that God loves us, |

in the eagerness to perform good works, |

4. Bet oft in Einfalt deiner Seelen; |
4. Pray often in the simplicity of your soul; |
Gott sieht aufs Herz, Gott ist ein Geist. |
God beholds your heart; God is spirit. |

12. Doch säume nicht, in den Gemeinen |

auch öffentlich Gott anzuflehn, |
in the congregation openly, |

mit seinen Brüdern, zu erhöhn; |
with brothers and loved ones; |
dein Herz voll Andacht zu entdecken, |
open your heart with reverence |

as your fellow Christian reveals his to you; |
und ihn zur Inbrunst zu erwecken, |
inspire him to fervor, |

as he awakens devotion within you. |
13. Bist du ein Herr, dem andre dienen, |
13. If you are a lord, serve others; |

Bet oft, so wirst du Glauben halten, |

never cool in love and zeal |
