1. Freiwillig hab ich’s dargebracht, |
1. Willingly I have brought it about, |
und niemand nimmt mein Leben. |
and no one has taken my life. |
Es selbst zu lassen, hab ich Macht, |
I have the power to relinquish it myself, |

power to give it back to me. |
Und darum liebt mein Vater mich, |
And therefore my Father loves me, |

2. Ich bin in meiner Niedrigkeit |
2. In my humiliation I am |
ein Ärgernis der Erden; |
an offense to the world; scorned, |
verschmäht, gegeißelt und verspeit, |
scourged and spit upon, |
gekreuzigt werd ich werden. |
I will be crucified. |
Wenn alles dies vollendet ist, |
When all of this is completed, |
so wird des Menschen Sohn, der Christ, |

3. Weil er sich selbst erniedrigt hat, |

reunite with you triumphantly, |

teach you to understand my Father’s realm |

and exalted plan, |

and send you my Spirit, which was promised; |
und ihr sollt meine Zeugen sein, |
and you shall be my witnesses |

Dein Kreuz, an das man dich erhöht, |
Your cross, where you were lifted up, |
verwandelt sich in Majestät, |

8. Gehasst in deiner Niedrigkeit, |

whom the horde of evil spirits? |
Du warst von Gott gekommen. |
You were sent from God. |
11. Nun irren mich nicht Schmach und Spott, |
11. Now shame and scorn will not lead me astray, |
noch deines Kreuzes Schanden. |
nor the humiliation of the cross. |
Du bist mein Herr, du bist mein Gott, |
You are my Lord, you are my God, |
denn du bist auferstanden. |
since you have risen again. |
Du bist mein Heil, mein Fels, mein Hort, |
You are my salvation, my rock, my fortress; |
der Herr, durch dessen mächtig Wort |
the Lord, through whose powerful word |

I will one day live forever as well. |
12. Wir sind nun göttlichen Geschlechts, |

durch dich des Himmels Erben. |

Dies ist die Hoffnung deines Knechts, |

Wie du vom Tod erstanden bist, |
As you are resurrected from death, |
