recht feierlich	yourself solemnly
des Heilands Fest mit Danken zu begehen!	to observe our Savior’s festival with gratitude!
Lieb ist der Dank,	Love is the thanks,
der Lobgesang,	the song of praise,
durch den wir ihn, den Gott der Lieb, erhöhen.	through which we exalt him, the God of love.
2. Sprich dankbar froh:	2. Speak with grateful joy:
Also, also	Thus, thus
hat Gott die Welt in seinem Sohn geliebet!	has God
O, wer bin ich,	loved the world through his Son!
Herr, dass du mich	O, who am I, Lord, that you
so herrlich hoch in deinem Sohn geliebet?	have loved me so gloriously through your Son?
3. Er, unser Freund,	3. He, our friend,
mit uns vereint	came to us then
zur Zeit, da wir noch seine Feinde waren;	when we were still his enemies;
er wird uns gleich,	he became like us,
um Gottes Reich	so that God’s kingdom
und seine Lieb im Fleisch zu offenbaren.	and his love in the flesh could be revealed.
4. An ihm nimm teil,	4. Take part in him,
er ist das Heil;	he is salvation;
tu täglich Buß und gläub an seinen Namen.	repent daily and believe in his name.
Der ehrt ihn nicht,	He does not worship God
wer „Herr, Herr“ spricht	who says “Lord, Lord,”
und doch nicht sucht, sein Beispiel nachzuahmen.	yet does not seek to imitate his example.
5. Aus Dank will ich	5. Out of gratitude,
in Brüdern dich,	in my brothers I will
dich, Gottessohn, bekleiden, speisen, tränken;	clothe, feed, and refresh you, Son of God;
der Frommen Herz	pious hearts,
in ihrem Schmerz	in their grief,
mit Trost erfreun und dein dabei gedenken.	I will cheer with comfort and thus honor you.
6. Rat, Kraft und Held,	6. Wisdom, Power, and Champion,
durch den die Welt	through whom the world
und alles ist, im Himmel und auf Erden!	and everything exists, in heaven and on earth!
Die Christenheit	Christendom
